White Sauce
Thousands of pasta recipes are now commonly adopted by Indian households. They are becoming a new attachment to Indian cuisine. Nevertheless, there are 2 main recipes that are widely appreciated by many Indians. Red sauce pasta is one, but white sauce pasta is the other recipe, which is known for its creamy and cheesy flavor.
In European cuisine, white sauce is also known as béchamel sauce and is the basis for many recipes. The white sauce is essentially prepared from a roux of butter and flour.
White sauce preparation is pretty simple and quick. Among those recipes that we were taught very early in our home science course was white sauce and we were supposed to make it perfectly.
Obviously, the recipe comes from my notes on home science. Until today, I have been using the same amounts of butter, milk and flour. I had some white sauce recipe requests and it took me a long time to share this recipe.
I typically prepare the sauce first and use it in any dish I make straight away. I make both all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour sauce. In this recipe article, I used all-purpose flour to make a white sauce. I have listed the amount of flour that can be used for all purposes.
I’ve also made a sauce with almond milk on occasion. So, you can use almond milk if you or your family members are vegan or allergic to milk. Using olive oil or other neutral flavoured oil can also be used to replace butter.
A medium bowl of medium thick white sauce is included in the recipe and can be used for pasta dishes such as White Sauce Pasta, Veg Pasta or Mac and cheese baked dishes.
A dish prepared with white sauce is really enjoyed a lot. Especially it is a chrarm for kids. They might just have this dish alone and not touch any other dishes on table 🙂 This is very common and popular in restaurants. At least one preparation with the use of white sauce will be a part of the buffet menu too.
Tips:
In an experienced cook’s range, there are few more vital recipes than a simple white sauce. It’s the beginning of any number of recipes, from a cheesy mac ‘n cheese to a creamy chicken pot pie, called a béchamel in France.
For a homemade nacho platter, use a thick cheese sauce stirred with hot cooked macaroni, poured over toasted tortilla chips or spooned over simple omelettes.
With a wooden spoon or wire brush, stir the butter and flour together. When you pour in the milk, stir continuously so that no lumps form. If there appears to be a few lumps once the sauce thickens, strain the sauce through a wire mesh sieve.
Stir in 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh dill and flour with a dash of ground nutmeg; proceed to make a delicious sauce served with fish.
Start by making the white sauce with a 1/4 teaspoon of dry ground mustard added to the flour to create an irresistible cheese sauce. Stir in 1/2 cup of shredded cheese; try sharp Cheddar or a nutty fontina, until melted, until the sauce is thickened.
Enjoy this perfect recipe and add it to any amazing dish made of white sauce for a creamy twist!
